Massage Therapy

Would you like the skills to relieve patients of pain? The Massage Therapy program provides the basic knowledge, tools, ethics, and behaviors that will enable you to successfully practice as a massage therapist in a variety of healthcare settings. You will gain in-depth educational skills that increase your knowledge and develop specialized techniques of massage.
A balance of academic knowledge, technical expertise, clinical skills and manual dexterity can provide you with a competitive advantage in this ever-changing field. You will acquire a solid base of knowledge through instruction and hands-on training in our well-rounded curriculum.
The Massage Therapist program is taught over a three-quarter period, with each quarter encompassing different courses of study.
1. This first quarter includes the following three courses:
  • General biology, medical terminology, and computer basics
  • Body systems
  • General psychology, customer service, and computer basics
2. The second quarter includes the following three courses:
  • Introduction to massage and anatomy/physiology
  • Therapeutic massage
  • Deep tissue sculpting
3. The third quarter includes the following three courses:
  • Sports massage
  • Traumatology
  • Personal fitness and nutrition
You will have the practical experience to obtain employment as a massage therapist in a number of healthcare settings, including medical and rehabilitation clinics, hospitals, and doctors´ and chiropractors´ offices. Opportunities also exist in health spas, hotels, fitness centers, sports organizations, tourist destinations, and cruise ships. There is the possibility of going into private practice as well.
Employment is expected to steadily grow over the next few years. There will be an increased demand for massage services for management of pain and prevention of physical disabilities from injury or disease.

Medical Assisting

The Medical Assisting program is designed to bridge the gap between the traditional nurse in the physician’s office and the medical secretary. The degree prepares graduates to be entry-level paraprofessionals in medical offices, clinics, and associated medical facilities. In addition to basic diagnostic and laboratory procedures, students learn current medical technology, medical codes, and other skills necessary to excel in the healthcare industry.
Upon completion of an Associate in Science degree in Medical Assisting, students will have taken a variety of courses related to the healthcare field. Courses include Anatomy and Physiology, Clinical Assisting, Pharmacology, EKG Interpretation, Phlebotomy and Medical Computer Applications. To ensure a complete background of the medical field, the Medical Assisting program covers medical insurance billing, medical transcription, and business management as it relates to healthcare.

Medical billing and its related occupations are among the fastest growing opportunities in the healthcare industry. You will learn the basic concepts and procedures to perform the tasks involved in health insurance as well as insurance claim forms. Cardiovascular Technologist

Would you like to become involved in an essential healthcare field? The Cardiovascular Technologist program will provide you with the skills to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac (heart) and peripheral vascular (blood vessel) ailments. Through extensive training in diagnostic procedures, you will acquire the tools to perform vital cardiovascular exams.
The cardiovascular field includes different areas of specialization, such as invasive cardiology, echocardiography, and vascular technology. Other areas of concentration include electrocardiograms (EKGs) as well as stress testing and Holter monitors.
The Cardiovascular Technologist program provides instruction in the following areas:
  • Electrocardiograms (EKGs)
  • Ambulatory monitoring
  • Graded exercise diagnostic examinations
  • Basic x-ray procedures
  • Laboratory procedures
You will gain the skills to perform essential duties such as: assist physicians with cardiac catheterization procedures, evaluate pulses by listening to the sounds of the arteries for abnormalities, and perform non-invasive tests using ultrasound instrumentation.
Job prospects are projected to increase due to an aging population and increased need for cost-effective alternatives to more costly and invasive heart surgery. Employment can be obtained in hospital cardiology departments, cardiologist or physician offices, cardiac rehabilitation centers, or ambulatory surgery centers.
Upon completion of the Cardiovascular Technologist program, you will be prepared to take registered cardiovascular technologist specialty exams, which include the Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) Exam and Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) Exam.

This upper division program offers a unique opportunity for graduates of the Cardiovascular Technologist program to enhance their skills and increase their earning potential.
Due to the highly specialized nature of their training, graduates are afforded excellent employment opportunities in various challenging and rewarding clinical environments.
The program enables graduates to perform diagnostic examinations through the acquisition of knowledge and techniques in diagnostic, cardiac, and vascular sonography.

Surgical Technologist

Career opportunities for the surgical technologist are projected to increase as the number of surgical procedures for a growing and aging population escalates. Learn the skills to assist with surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel. Become a valuable member of an operating-room team by performing tasks vital to a successful surgery.
You will be responsible for essential duties before, during and after surgical procedures. Tasks include the preparation of operating room and patients, organization and maintenance of instruments and equipment, cleaning of operating room, and replenishment of supplies. The Surgical Technologist program provides training in the areas of:
  • Proper aseptic techniques for preventing and controlling infection.
  • Recognition of basic instrument sets (major, minor, and plastic).
  • Ability to position patients with confidence and ease.
  • Knowledge of the general makeup of the mayo tray and back table.
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of a surgical team.
The program combines classroom instruction with supervised clinical experience. Additional training includes: anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, professional ethics, medical terminology, and CPR certification. Prior to graduation, students will also get experience in an operating room, working under the supervision of a nurse or operating room technician.
There are an abundance of employment opportunities in hospital operating or delivery rooms, clinics, surgical centers, and physician or dentist offices that include outpatient surgery.
Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to take the national certification exam.

Patient Care Technician

Would you like to assist in the care of patients? The Patient Care Technician program will prepare you to provide direct care to individuals in a variety of health care environments. You will gain technical expertise to offer patients effective clinical assistance.
You will work alongside doctors and other health care professionals to oversee and monitor patients. Your education will combine basic medical knowledge and hands-on skills gathered in the classroom and laboratory. The Patient Care Technician program includes instruction on the following:
