Massage Therapy

Would you like the skills to relieve patients of pain? The Massage Therapy program provides the basic knowledge, tools, ethics, and behaviors that will enable you to successfully practice as a massage therapist in a variety of healthcare settings. You will gain in-depth educational skills that increase your knowledge and develop specialized techniques of massage.
A balance of academic knowledge, technical expertise, clinical skills and manual dexterity can provide you with a competitive advantage in this ever-changing field. You will acquire a solid base of knowledge through instruction and hands-on training in our well-rounded curriculum.
The Massage Therapist program is taught over a three-quarter period, with each quarter encompassing different courses of study. 1. This first quarter includes the following three courses:
  • General biology, medical terminology, and computer basics
  • Body systems
  • General psychology, customer service, and computer basics
2. The second quarter includes the following three courses:
  • Introduction to massage and anatomy/physiology
  • Therapeutic massage
  • Deep tissue sculpting
3. The third quarter includes the following three courses:
  • Sports massage
  • Traumatology
  • Personal fitness and nutrition
You will have the practical experience to obtain employment as a massage therapist in a number of healthcare settings, including medical and rehabilitation clinics, hospitals, and doctors´ and chiropractors´ offices. Opportunities also exist in health spas, hotels, fitness centers, sports organizations, tourist destinations, and cruise ships. There is the possibility of going into private practice as well. Employment is expected to steadily grow over the next few years. There will be an increased demand for massage services for management of pain and prevention of physical disabilities from injury or disease.

Medical Administrative Assistant

The Medical Assisting program is designed to bridge the gap between the traditional nurse in the physician’s office and the medical secretary. The degree prepares graduates to be entry-level paraprofessionals in medical offices, clinics, and associated medical facilities. In addition to basic diagnostic and laboratory procedures, students learn current medical technology, medical codes, and other skills necessary to excel in the healthcare industry.
Upon completion of an Associate in Science degree in Medical Assisting, students will have taken a variety of courses related to the healthcare field. Dialysis Technician

Dialysis Technicians, also called Hemodialysis or Renal Dialysis Technicians, operate kidney dialysis machines, which filter normal waste products and excess fluids from the blood of patients whose kidneys can no longer perform that function. Dialysis Technicians have clinical and technical skills, and can be responsible for both direct patient care, as well as dialysis equipment maintenance and repair. The Dialysis Technician program is designed to provide the student with a comprehensive introduction to the field of hemodialysis and the skills required for entry-level employment as a Dialysis Technician. Classroom instruction includes principles of dialysis, anatomy and physiology of the kidney, fluid and electrolyte balance, hematologic aspects, infectious diseases, dialysis systems and equipment, vascular access to circulation, dietary regulation, blood chemistries, complications of renal failure, psychosocial aspects, and an overview of peritoneal dialysis and renal transplantation. The externship will include instruction and hands-on experience in the preparation of artificial kidneys, physical assessments, universal precautions, fluid management, initiating and concluding dialysis, access to circulation, patient equipment monitoring, and the treatment of routine hemodialysis problems in accordance with dialysis procedures.

Respiratory Care

Would you like to be trained to use life support equipment and procedures? The Advanced Associate Degree, RRT Program, is an integral member of the medical team, specializing in the diagnostics, treatments, and procedures of monitoring patients with respiratory problems. They evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders.
The curriculum offers technical education with hands-on laboratory experience, providing a well-rounded base of knowledge. The Respiratory Care Technician program provides instruction in the following areas:
  • Medical gas therapy
  • Clinical applications and therapeutics

  • Pulmonary functions and cardiopulmonary pathophysiology
  • Continuous mechanical ventilation
As a Respiratory Care Technician, you will become a vital member of a healthcare team assisting doctors with the treatment of pulmonary disorders. Dental Assisting

Would you like to become an integral member of a dental health team? Dental Assistants are educated to perform chairside assisting methods, patient procedures, and related office and laboratory tasks under the direction and supervision of a licensed dentist. The variety of tasks you learn will allow you to be challenged by diverse responsibilities in the delivery of dental care. You will gain knowledge of the basic dental sciences, proficiency in laboratory and clinical skills, and practical experience involving specialized skills.
You will obtain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting using major equipment such as amalgamators, dental units and chairs, model trimmers, oral evacuation equipment, oxygen tanks, personal computers, ultrasonic units, and X-ray units.
Duties of a Dental Assistant may include: assisting a dentist at chair side with basic dental procedures; preparing materials for use by the dentist; cleaning and sterilizing dental instruments; providing education to patients about good dental health; and performing preventive procedures.
You will be trained in valuable clinical, radiographic, and administrative procedures, leading to career opportunities with dental offices, dental supply manufacturers, hospital dental departments, and insurance companies. Additional entry-level positions include dental receptionists, dental insurance clerks, dental supply salespeople, and administrative assistants.

Surgical Technology

Career opportunities for the surgical technologist are projected to increase as the number of surgical procedures for a growing and aging population escalates. Learn the skills to assist with surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel. Become a valuable member of an operating-room team by performing tasks vital to a successful surgery.
You will be responsible for essential duties before, during and after surgical procedures. Tasks include the preparation of operating room and patients, organization and maintenance of instruments and equipment, cleaning of operating room, and replenishment of supplies. The Surgical Technologist program provides training in the areas of:
  • Proper aseptic techniques for preventing and controlling infection.
  • Recognition of basic instrument sets (major, minor, and plastic).
  • Ability to position patients with confidence and ease.
  • Knowledge of the general makeup of the mayo tray and back table.
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of a surgical team.
The program combines classroom instruction with supervised clinical experience. Additional training includes: anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, professional ethics, medical terminology, and CPR certification. Prior to graduation, students will also get experience in an operating room, working under the supervision of a nurse or operating room technician.
There are an abundance of employment opportunities in hospital operating or delivery rooms, clinics, surgical centers, and physician or dentist offices that include outpatient surgery.
Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to take the national certification exam.
