Start your Engine: Automotive Trade Courses
Your favorite toy as a child was a set of Matchbox cars.
Your dad taught you to drive at 13. You started saving money for your first car
long before your 16th birthday. Now you spend weekends taking apart
anything with wheels and putting it back together. Turn your passion into a
career by enrolling in an automotive degree program.
Today’s car mechanics need more expertise than
an apprenticeship. Most high school programs train students to become
assistants, therefore an accredited post-secondary program is recommended to
take full advantage of the job opportunities.
In addition to schooling, you might
want to consider becoming certified by the National Institute for Automotive
Service Excellence, or ASE. The certification is voluntary, but is a standard
credential in the industry.
