Degrees in Graphic Design

Reckoned as an art of visualizing ideas that reflect in the form of graphics, logos, web designs, videos, animations, newsletters, signs, brochures, etc.; a degree in graphic designing offers a unique opportunity of exploring one’s creativity. It has all the ingredients of weaving a lucrative and an enticingly creative career for you.

In fact, a degree in graphic design enables you to become a part of the mammoth design industry – an industry that has gone beyond designing logos and ad prints to get transformed into a world of animation.

The Growth Goes On!

The graphic design arena offers ample opportunities for the qualified professionals. According to a report from Strategies for Management, the gross revenues for freelance graphic designers will increase from over $3.4 billion in 2004 to over $3.8 billion in 2009. Besides, their number is slated to grow over to 86,000 by the end of the decade. The industry-wide equipment purchasing (by design firms and freelancers) is slated to grow over $250 million in 2009.

Salaries

According to AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) Survey of Design Salaries 2006, the Median Total Cash Compensation for a designer in the year 2006 was $39,800, and for an Art Director, it was $60,900.

Richard Grefé, Executive Director, (AIGA), states, “We are very confident of the future for the design profession. Every sign from the business community today signals a growing realization of the importance of design to American industry’s global competitive advantage. Design innovation is seen as the driving engine across all business sectors for creating value in a world economy where production costs and prices are being driven ever lower… We expect to see design salaries remaining firm this next year.”
